The castle of Rocca Grimalda stands in an area of stark contrasts between Monferrato and Liguria, in a dominant position over the wide Orba valley, controlling the roads between the sea and the Alessandria plain.
It has developed over the centuries around the majestic circular tower which dates back to the end of the 12th century, when ruled from the Malaspina feudal family under the Holy Roman Empire.
The gardens
The plant dates back to the mid 18th century when Battista Grimaldi III decided to create a splendid viewpoint over the Orba valley.
Recently restored and included in the list of historic gardens of Piedmont, the park has three different features: the Italian garden, the grove one or romantic garden and the secret one or medieval monastic garden.
Beyond the garden there is still the wood, which grew up on the steep rock. In the historical park, the topiary art joins the flowerbeds of aromatic plants and the fruit pergola of the secret garden.

Weddings and ceremonies
The castle is proposed as an unforgettable setting of wedding ceremonies.
That’s the frame, great and ancient, of the manor and of a secular park which constitutes the ideal context for the service of aperitifs and rich buffets for wedding receptions or other events.
The large garden, the lounge and the cellars, in suggestive and refined environments, the family welcome and the charm of exclusivity make the event unforgettable.
Hospitality
Hospitality is offered in the B&B in small apartments for two or three guests located inside the castle. Breakfast is served in a room on the main floor. There are also charming apartments available for tourist use, for four or six people, equipped with a kitchen and suitable for long stays.
Guests have access to the garden for reading and conversation and a vast lawn for sunbathing in peace and finding refreshment under an “artist’s shower” on the hottest days.
The apartment (50 m²), suitable for two people, consists of a large room with a mezzanine where the large double bed is located.
On the ground floor the living room, illuminated by two large windows overlooking the garden, is furnished in an old eclectic style.

The territory
Rocca Grimalda, located in the Alto Monferrato, has a vast territory in terms of extension, but with an intimate, intact and splendidly preserved historical centre.
Located halfway between the sea and the mountains, is known to those who love genuine wine and nature trails.
Its hills offer an extraordinary variety of horizons and of landscapes, environments and crops.
The Wine road and the Route of the castles, indicated by signs on the road, are an effective guide to get to the goal.
